Wisdom For Life

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

To possess God’s wisdom is among the greatest needs we have. God’s wisdom helps us to make prudent choices throughout our Christian lives—to choose God’s way and reject the world’s way in every situation.

The Bible provides many commands and principles for godly living, but it is not an exhaustive manual of methods and rules for every conceivable situation. That would not be very workable. And it would keep us from relying directly on God. He wants us to be in His Word daily so that we can know His principles for righteous living and can pray wisely for guidance when we have difficult decisions.

In Scripture the Lord gives believers enough truth to live responsibly, but enough mystery to draw them to Him in believing prayer: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).

Lessons Learned: If we are truly Christ's disciples, then God will gladly provide us with everything we need. It may not always be what we want, but it is truly what we need. But to receive these blessings we must be in Christ and He and His word must be in us. "If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given you" (John 15:7). This is not a promise to give us just anything we ask for, but if we study scripture, we will find the answers we need for daily living. Not everything is spelled out explicitly, but scripture teaches principals which are sufficient for all our needs.

Applications: Seek the wisdom of God. Life is full of choices and in every circumstance there is one right choice, God's way. As sinners we constantly rebel and choose our own ways instead of His way. Study scripture so that you will learn the principals which will enable you to discern what God's way is and take the true path.

Prayer Subjects: Pray for an end to my stubborness and rebellion. Pray for a desire to follow in God's ways, to be in His will, and to be in Christ. Pray for wisdom and discernment in determining the correct choices in life, the biblical choices. Pray for a healthy fear of God, because "the fear of Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline" (Prov 1:7).
