The House Built On The Rock

It did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Matthew 7:25

The house founded on the rock represents the life of spiritual obedience. It’s the life that takes a scriptural view of itself and the world, as described in Christ’s Beatitudes in The Sermon on the Mount. It’s the sort of life that’s more concerned about internal righteousness than external form. It’s a life of genuineness rather than hypocrisy, and of God’s righteousness rather than self–righteousness.

The house based on the rock depicts the life that empties itself of pride and human good works and is humble and repentant because of its own sin. Such a life strives, with the Spirit’s help, to enter the narrow gate of salvation and be faithful to the narrow way of Christ and His Word. The life built on the rock trusts in God’s will and hopes in His Word above all else. Where does your hope rest and your trust lie?

Lessons Learned: First, we must build our lives on the firm foundation of God's word, but the lives we build must be solid as well. They must be lives of spiritual obedience to biblical truth. They are lives of humility and repentance and service. The christian life is filled by the Holy Spirit, submissive to the Father's will, and conformed to Christ's image. This is the kind of life which can withstand the hardships and challenges of the world, and weather any storm without compromise. It is a life which bears forth the fruit of repentance and salvation for God's glory.

Applications: Start by establishing a solid, biblical foundation for your life. Study the bible diligently to learn biblical principals to live your life by. Establish spiritual disciplines to aid in your spiritual growth. Then, with the Holy Spirit's help you will grow strong in Christ and be able to endure difficulties while obeying God's will. "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" (1 Cor 15:58).

Prayer Subjects: Pray for a complete commitment to living my life according to biblical principals. Pray that I would be faithful and never compromise those principals because of pride, covetousness, or a fear of man. Pray for a Spirit filled life of humility, repentance, and a healthy fear of God. A life able to withstand temptation and sin, and remain standing on the rock of scripture.
